Out of Darkness

1987 - 1991

My concept of the studio/stage expanded during a 1987 summer residency at The MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire. While there, I began to photograph outdoors at night, projecting images onto the landscape. In using projected imagery, I am intrigued by how the slides create a visual structure as well as supply emotional, psychological, narrative, and cultural content.

Without the support of residencies at The MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, and The Djerassi Foundation, I could not have made this work.
