My concept of the studio/stage expanded during a 1987 summer residency at MacDowell in Peterborough, New Hampshire. While there, I began to photograph outdoors at night, projecting images onto the landscape.
In using projected imagery, I am intrigued by how the slides create a visual structure. I layer family photographs, self-portraits and media images to reference the natural environment as a site of memory, trauma, fragility, and renewal.
Thank you to MacDowell, Yaddo, and The Djerassi Foundation. If it weren't for my artist residencies, this project would not have been possible.
